First Steps

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY OF GOD!

1. Remember… you became a Christian by TRUSTING not by TRYING!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall [a]direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3: 5-6 NKJV

God will direct your life from this point on.. if… you will surrender and let Him. You became a member of the family of God by Grace through Faith. Trusting. Jesus. Completely! It’s kind of like you got in bed last night. You remember how you did your normal routine? Turned back the covers, set your personal things on the nightstand, adjusted the lights in the house the way you always do and then got into bed. Nobody can take that mental image from your mind and your routine is unique to anyone else I’ll bet! The scripture says: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” – 2 Cor. 5: 17 NKJV. You are IN Christ. You are Brand New! It only happens one time. You are born again. Trust Him!

2. RUN YOUR RACE FOR THE LORD!

3. MAKE GOOD PLANS, BUT LET THE LORD ORDER YOUR STEPS!

Proverbs 16: 9 NKJV – A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.

4. GO IN GOD’S POWER!

Isaiah 40: 27-31 – “Why sayest thou O Jacob, and speakest thou O Israel; my way is hid from the Lord, my judgment is passed over from my God? Hast thou not known? Hast thou now heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth fainteth not, neither is weary! There is no searching of His understanding! He giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might, He increaseth strength. Even youths grow tired and weary, but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up on wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint!

God gives his strength to 3 kinds of people:

  • Those who remember to worship Him.

  • Those who are willing to admit their weakness to Him.

  • Those who intentionally determine to WAIT on Him.

The word ‘WAIT’ here comes from the Hebrew word ‘QAVAH’ which means to earnestly anticipate, meditate upon, and expect, God to move on your behalf.  God has a good plan for your life! Learn to live a life of expectation for Him to do great things!

5.  KEEP SHORT ACCOUNTS WITH GOD!

Confess your sins to the Lord.  Often.  Get it off of your back.  You are ‘prone’ to sin but you are not ‘ruled’ by sin any longer.  You don’t intentionally sin, but you will inevitably fall to sin over the course of your life as a believer.  The Scripture teaches when you do, run to the Lord!  He is FAITHFUL and JUST to forgive you and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1: 9 NKJV

6.  YOU CAN BE CONFIDENT IN GOD’S PLAN FOR YOU!

Philippians 1:6 — New Century Version (NCV) 6 God began doing a good work in you, and I am sure he will continue it until it is finished when Jesus Christ comes again.

God is setting you apart for His purpose and plan!  As you walk daily with Him, understand that you are now living life ‘on purpose’ for Jesus.  He’ll get you to the right place at the right time if you’ll yield your will to His and let the Holy Spirit lead you!

7.  KEEP YOUR EYES ON JESUS!

Fear.  Doubt. Unbelief.  All of them have to bow at the name of JESUS!  When you focus on the Lord, they have no room in your life to pull you down.  They are all liars and want to see you fail.  Cut them off with your focus on the Lord 🙂

“Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed – that exhilarating finish in and with God – he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God.” – Hebrews 12: 2 BSB

God’s Plan for your life is for you to learn how to walk with Him daily trusting Him for everything.  It’s a process.  Lean into Jesus, He will take you places you never dreamed you could go!
